Two new book aquisitions today.
I bought “Bliss” by Peter Carey and “The Zookeepers War” by Steven Conte. I also bought an Adbusters magazine, because I love them so, but that’s besides the point.
Last week I bought “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, “Tales of the Unexpected” by Roald Dahl and “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer.
I hardly ever get a chance to read, what between two jobs, friend catchups, and all the dvds I watch. But whenever I walk into a book store, I find it near impossible to leave without spending at least $50.
Kim talked me into only buying one, and when Griff came around (he’d heard our discussion from the next aisle), he talked me into getting both. They were, honestly, like the two sides of my conscience. They were both putting exactly what I felt into words.
Kim: “You HAVE unread books at home. Take one. Even though you don’t even need that.”
Griff: “They’ll be there when you’re ready to read them, it’s not like spending money on clothes, books are good.”
Kim: “They’ll be here next time you come in. Save your money.”
Griff: “You might forget about it! May as well get it now. Reading’s good for you - educational!”
And on and on. Standing either side of me, my head swivelling like I was watching a tennis match, watching these two battle out my inner debate. Was actually very amusing.
But, Griff won. Books.. I just can’t help myself.
