Do American hillbillies qualify as an ethnic group?

i don’t know much about it, being an aussie, but i’d say that american hillbillies would be more likely to be classified as a different ‘class’, rather than a different ethnic group. i mean, segregation and difference in lifestyle still exists in individual ethnic groups, as well as between ethnic groups.
