what i got at borders tonight.
adbusters - a ‘journal of the mental environment’. i love this magazine, and have been reading it for probably over a year. just checked - my first mag is the sept-oct issue of 2006. it’s a strange magazine. it deals with world politics and problems, such as governmental issues, consumerism, and environmental problems. but it’s set out, and discussed, in such an artful and strange way. i really enjoy reading the opinions of the writers. another thing that makes it great - it’s not written by a specific set of writers. they get authors, journalists, and civilians from all over the world to contribute what they would like.
dumbo feathers, pass it on - this is a new magazine which i liked the look of. from the looks of it, it’s a magazine which profiles five people each issue. it looks very creatful and artful. lots of pictures, obviously by those profiled in the magazine. and it’s australian, which i really like.
the unbearable lightness of being - this is a book, by milan kunolera. it looks very interesting. i’m not quite sure what it’s about exactly, but looks like a good read. chantell bought this for me, as a christmas present. i love that girl. i bought her the ‘love’ book of poetry, from the nanushka series, written by nan witcom. i’m trying to read more. i’ve read 8 books since school finished. i take that as an achievement.
i also bought the challenges dvd of topgear.
all up i spent $60.
BUT i did make a new friend. the guy who served us (a couple of times) at borders. i talked him into dl-ing top gear, i know when his bday is (day after mine), what he’s studying at uni (art and law), what he plas to do with next year (go to europe) etc etc. i think that’s more than you should know about a shop assistant =D
i think chantell and lee were a bit shocked haha. but we just got talking, and it wasn’t all that busy. it actually boosted my confidence a little that i CAN make conversation with people, even new people, and intelligent conversation at that.
and meeting new friends at borders has been a goal of mine, since i made a friend at officeworks that time. and, btw, if he’s reading this, that guitar you made was crazy. i want one. even if i don’t play.
but i had a good night. first at sushi train + around the city with kim and lee. and then around the city (mostly borders) with chan + lee. even if lee’s driving DID almost kill us once or twice ;)
