crushes: boy, i wish that i had said yes when you drunkenly asked me out on a date. we could have spent the past few months as bf and gf instead of silently longing for each other. i think that we should to go on that date asap and make up for all of the lost time. — anonymous

‘Draining the life out of me’, as in someone is just annoying, tiring, boring etc. ‘Risk it for a biscuit’ - I think this one’s pretty self explanatory. It makes me laugh every time. ‘That is MINT!’ - as in, that’s awesome. I love saying it now. I also love the way people from York leave the word ‘the’ out of sentences. Like,...

– Hugh, from Peter Carey’s Theft. Currently reading. Peter Carey is now officially my favourite author. This is the third book of his I’ve read since being in the UK. I just ordered another off of Amazon. I can’t help myself, he’s amazing.

And seeing him motorcycle his way across the aussie countryside made me feel a little homesick. I miss seeing the aussie bush on my way to work everyday. Everything here is so green. It’s not normal.

It’s a bad system, because come hometime, I’m not going to be able to take anything with me. I’m going to have to look into the price of shipping, as in by boat, back to Aus. It’d take fucking forever, but some of the books I’ve bought over here I want to be permanents in my collection - I’ve read a number of amazing books the past three months. Ditto with the...

The Thrill of the Chase.
She had thought that working in the same building was hard – knowing that she took the same lunch breaks during the week previous meant that she had to stop herself from looking at the door each time it was opened whilst sitting in the cafeteria. Now that they were in the same office, however, it was a completely different story. Just close enough to be able make silly faces at each other every...

US panic at China's new ship killer →
rantingaboutcameras: Normally I wouldn’t even bother reblogging this, but I have real issues with how decidedly xenophobic this becomes near the end. To give you the rough summary, the USA intervened when China wanted to go in and kick some Taiwanese arse in 1996 by sending two aircraft carriers in. 13 years later, the Chinese have pretty much finished a missile that will be able to sink those...

My dad walked the Kokoda Track a couple of weeks ago. I don’t know if this is something I’m allowed to say, but I am so glad this happened after Dad walked it. He was gone for 10 days without mobile phone reception or any way of contacting anyone back home.. I would have gone crazy with worry.

I'm kinda dreading work tomorrow.
Between the two of them.. I don’t know. And now that Josh is working up on our floor as well. I have a feeling that, for the next week at least, work is going to depress me. But I don’t like making decisions, and I think that is what this week will bring. Ughhh.

Dusk.
Last night at Dusk, as I was leaving, I tapped Giles (from Evil Eye) on the shoulder to wave goodbye to him, as he was at the bar. He excused himself from his conversation, stepped towards me, picked me up and spun me around. When he put me down he gave me a kiss on the cheek and bid me goodnight. But it reminded me heaps of one time at Syke, when I ran in, and Kevin gave me a huge whizzy in the...

Reminders.
Something today, I’m not even sure what, reminded me of that time we crashed in Brooke’s pool house, and we went to sleep top-to-tails on the big couch. You were threatening to tickle my feet. When I woke up I found that, sometime during the course of the night, you had switched positions so that you were spooning me, and you had your arm over me and were holding my hand. The whole...

Solitude is great.
stupidinboston: It is unique in it’s ability to point out to you all the things in your life that are completely worthless. I do not speak of loneliness. That is a different sort of hell. A wise person once blogged; loneliness is not a lack of people, loneliness is a lack of understanding. That has always stuck with me.
